Hirst Conservation Materials manufacture a range of products specifically for use in the building restoration industry. HCM Lime Putty
The original binder of all quality mortars, produced by the controlled slaking of Buxton high calcium quicklime. This product is available in differing maturity periods for a whole range of uses, including tuck-pointing, limewashing and solid plastering.

HCM Coarse Stuff Mortar
Traditionally prepared non-hydraulic mortar of 1:3 (lime putty:best washed riverbed sand) for bedding stones and handmade bricks above ground, or for re-pointing, rendering basecoats and roughcasting. Also available with animal reinforcing hair.

HCM Fine Stuff
A prepared fine mortar for use as a 3mm finishing plaster or a very fine crack filler. This is a mixture of one part HCM Lime Putty to one part fine, washed sharp sand.

HCM Limewash
A traditional lime paint supplied as a prepared solution, HCM Limewash is made from the finest lime putty and lime water for immediate application to lime renders, previous firm limewash, and suitable porous brick, stone or timberwork. Chose from our standard colour range or use our unique bespoke colour matching service.

HCM Soft Distemper
A prepared dry mixture for making traditional water soluble distemper for interior decoration of ceilings and walls. Not suitable for bathrooms, kitchens or industrial areas. Historic colours to order.

HCM Victorian Milk Paint
This wipeable water based paint is an early emulsion made to a well-known 19th century formula, although similar recipes would have been used for centuries. It may by used as an internal or external paint.

HCM Historical Oil Paints
Genuine Lead Carbonate (White Lead) based paints are manufactured only for the restoration, repair or renewal of historic textures and finishes on Grade I, Grade II* (Scotland Category A) listed buildings, scheduled ancient monuments or works of art following completion of the appropriate declaration notice. Alternatively, Zinc Oxide and other non-toxic historical oil paints are available as production stock or to suit specific customer orders.
