Having the skills and professional capability to undertake conservation projects is only half the story. To achieve the high levels of quality needed, we must have the right tools for the job. To ensure this, our sister company Hirst Conservation Materials Limited develops and manufacturers high quality traditional building materials, specialising in:

  • Lime putty and ready mixed mortars.
  • Specialist lime plasters, renders, daubs and grouts for historic building repair.
  • An extensive range of traditional coatings and paints including zinc paint, soft distemper and Victorian Milk Paint (casein/oil bound distemper).
  • Specialist Red and White Lead (Lead Carbonate) paints.

All important historic buildings and ancient monuments are protected by law, and any change of material proposed in their repair or restoration may only be applied if approval has been granted by a competent authority, for example, English Heritage, Historic Scotland, CADW Wales. As a general principle, each authority encourages a policy of repairing like-with-like in addition to conserving the building's historic fabric.

This is no easy task if it is to be carried out correctly...

Our comprehensive range of genuine conservation materials are produced with the protection of historic buildings in mind. Manufactured under a strict quality assurance programme, each product is supported by complete Health & Safety guidance in addition to technical data sheets. For more information on our range of products, please click 'products' on the menu to the left. To download a series of Acrobat .pdf datasheets on covergare rates and prices, please click here.

We also provide analysis and research services, enabling many traditional building and decorative materials to be closely matched. All materials manufactured and supplied by Hirst Conservation Materials Limited can be delivered anywhere in the UK and Europe.
