Hirst Conservation undertakes the
conservation of metals, including bronze, brass and iron
objects, ranging from plaques to sculptures.
Our conservators carry out condition
assessments, diagnosis of corrosion types and sources using
various sampling analysis techniques. Recommendations are
then made for the cleaning, repair and stabilisation methods
appropriate for each object in its context and environment.
The services offered for the treatment of
metals include:

Light surface cleaning and removal of
surface lying accretions

severely degraded coatings

Repair and consolidation of
damaged elements

Analysis of corrosion products to
test for more severe deterioration such as , e.g.,
bronze disease

products and stains from the metal surfaces where
harmful to stability of the object and/or aesthetically
displeasing
